Show Cue System

Hi Mike,

I am discovering several problems with a new installation of SCS 9, however before I mention specifics I would like to check a couple of things with you.
1. In the Requirments for the product you mention XP SP1, however I am running XP Professional on an IBM notebook with SP2. Any known problems with this combo? I have used version 8 for a number of shows and have not had any problems with this combo.
2. Assuming that there is no issue with the above, the major is issue is hanging of the program. The procedure to hang SCS 9 is as follows:
a. Start up the program and load a cue list
b. Go into the Editor and somewhere in the existing cue list add a new play list
c. Before entering any information in the play list move the new entry up or down in the list (drag and drop on the left hand list).
d. This generates the error "Cue Description must be entered".
e. Once I click on the 'OK' the error dialog box disappears as does the Editor and the program is now hung.
The only way to recover is to kill the application in the Task Manager.

I also have a lot of graphics errors in the Editor - Mainly parts of the display randomly don't appear. This is sometimes corrected by existing the Editor and reentering the Editor.

A couple of points. When I first loaded SCS 9 I also had SCS 8.2.5 loaded in the system. I subsequently removed both programs and then re-installed SCS 9.

I am assuming that this is some sort of system configuration problem on my part, but any light you can shed on this problem would be very much appriciated.

XP SP2 should be OK - that's what I have on my development pc. How much main memory does your pc have?

Thanks for the detailed info on the lock-up. I was able to reproduce this and have now applied a fix in 9.1.3 (see separate posting).

The problem of parts of the editor screen not appearing is a 'screen painting' issue. I encountered this a few times during development and thought I had fixed this, but obviously there are conditions where the problem still exists.

First of all, there is a work-around. I think you will find that if when this occurs you switch to another program's window and then back to SCS then the SCS window will correctly repaint. The window you switch to will probably have to be maximized, ie occupy the whole screen, so that when you switch back to SCS the entire screen will be repainted.

To fix the situations in which this occurs, can you give me an indication of what you were doing immediately prior to losing a part of the screen? EG, were you dragging a cue within SCS, dragging a file from outside into SCS, or what?

SCS 9 is much heavier on screen resources than SCS 8 which is why some screen painting problems are occurring in SCS 9.

An update on the screen painting issue in the Editor: I've had another report of screen painting being incomplete in the Editor, but this was mainly in the cue list tree.

Following these reports, which reflect an issue I encountered during development but thought I had fixed, I'm now changing the internal structure of the Editor window. I am hopeful that this will correct the screen painting issues. There should be little or no difference in the appearance of the Editor window. This will take me a few days to complete.

Thanks a lot for correcting the lock up issue. I down loaded 9.1.3 and everything seems fine.

I have some updated information about the graphcs issue with the editor and it appears to be related to the dual display capability of my IBM T41 notebook. When I operate the notebook in single display mode, the graphcis appears to work correctly. When I enable dual display mode I get missing graphics when I open the SCS 9 Editor.

I have a detailed description (along with screen captures) in a WORD document. I can email this doc to you if you are interested (I don't know if I can attach a doc to a posting).
