Show Cue System

Hello all you fellow techies,

My SCS has recently developed a new problem. I use SCS for musical theatre. My laptop is optimized with as few as possible operations running in background. I'm running on Windows 7 on an Acer laptop. Also using Presonus Audio Box USB as my interface to the analog world. SCS always recognizes this device with no problems.

During intermission (about 20 minutes) I lose my USB port connection. When I cue a track, SCS shows the track running with signal displaying visually on the output meter, but no sound to my system. All is back to normal after I shut down SCS & restart it. I do not have to reboot Windows. This only appears to happen when SCS is idle for 20 minutes or more. My SCS version is 10.9.7. I also installed the latest Presonus Audio Box USB driver after this problem occurred...problem still there on all 3 USB ports.

I've been using SCS for 2 years (about 6 shows) & this is the first time I've had this problem.
Any ideas, suggestions?

We use an Audiobox USB with various Toshiba laptops for small shows and conferences and haven't had the problem you're getting, but here's some things that may help.

The Audiobox is a USB 1 device and must be plugged into the USB port it was plugged into when the device drivers were installed (there's an explanation of why somewhere on the PreSonus website). If it is into a different port the computer loads a generic microsoft driver that sound awful.

Try installing the older version of the device driver (2.8.4), the latest version (1.2) only really adds support for the AudioBox VSL, so you don't need it and according to the Presonus forum some AudioBox USB users have had real problems with it. Presonus decided to start the version numbering from 1 again when the VSL come out, hence the wrong way round version numbers.

Check that all the power management setting on your computer are switched off, if your machine is going to sleep and cutting the power to it's USB ports that's going to switch off the AudioBox and SCS wont be able to reconnect when the computer wakes up.

In Windows 7 (maybe in other versions) there's a power setting called "USB selective suspend" which should be disabled for the power plan you're running on. This can be found in Control Panel > Power Options and then click "Change Advanced Power Settings". In that window, expand "USB settings" > "USB Selective Suspend Setting" and set to disable.

Thanks to all who replied. I think, with your help, I found the problem. I'm not sure, however, which of the changes solved it. I changed the sleep setting for USB ports to "off" in the device manager. I removed the new Presonus driver & installed version 2.8.4 & been using only the USB port that I installed the driver with.
