You dont have permission

Post by Richard Simpson » Wed Dec 19, 2012 1:57 am

Hi Mike

Just recently, despite being logged in to the board, I get this notice "You do not have the required permissions to read topics within this forum." Doesn't seem to affect anything though.

Regards Richard Simpson

If you're accessing the board from a browser 'favorite' or 'bookmark', try resetting that link after accessing the forum from the SCS Home Page link.

I've noticed that message for a long time. When you open a forum (this one, for example), the navigation line at the top of the page shows "Board index < All SCS Forums < SCS General". If you click on the "All SCS Forums" part, you get the list of forums with the "no permissions..." message. If you click in the "Board index" part, you get the list of forums without the message. Either way, you can open a forum and read the postings. It would seem the "All SCS Forums" level is redundant, but maybe that's just the way phpBB works.

OK - try now. I have a separate forum for archived topics (such as Release Candidate notices) and this is only accessible by the Administrator. phpBB was probably trying to open that forum when you clicked on "SCS Forums" so I have now moved the archive forum to a new top-level forum named "Private Forums" which hopefully you cannot see! Let me know how you get on.

I still get the "no permissions..." message if I click on "All SCS Forums". I tried logging out, selecting the forums from the SCS home page and logging back in. I don't see any of the "hidden" forums (nor have I in the past). Having the message appear, while a bit disconcerting, is of no consequence since I'm able to open all the public forums and read them.
