latency in firing

Post by techniekhofplein » Sun Dec 04, 2011 2:31 am

Hello all,
Being a perfectly happy user of SCS for a couple of years now I recently updated from 10.7.3 to 10.8.5 (following the instructions provided carefully) but now an awkward problem occurs.
There seems to be a latency of about half a second between pushing GO and the audio starting to play. Ofcourse the "Start marker" is set right at the beginning of the audio.
I tried
- altering preload, ASIO and playback buffers,
- restart SCS and/or my computer,
- reinstalling 10.8.5
- uninstall 10.7.3
- loading a preexisting file which had nog problems
- creating a new file and import cues to it
but nothing seems to work.
Another symptom is the playback time not "updating" in the way it used in 10.7.3. Normally it would count in milliseconds, but it now counts in random intervals between 0.5 and 1.5 seconds.
Anyone else experiencing this problem since updating?

SETUP
********************
Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit
Intel i5 2.80 GHz
4GB RAM
E-MU 1212M soundcard

PS. I'm now back to 10.7.3 for the show I'm programming this week, but I'd like to use the new features as well :)

Looking back over the changes made since 10.7.3, there's only one change I can find that could explain this half-second delay, and that is related to the internal ASIO buffer size. I'll email you details of a trace version that will give me the actual buffer size used with your E-MU card.
