scs and files located an a fileserver

Hi!

Has anyone experiences to use SCS and playing back audiofiles which are located at a file sever (smb/linux)?
We do all editing and playback of the audio files during the rehearsals at/from a fileserver over 1GBit ethernet (~40-50MB read possible).
Works very well....we bounce the tracks one rehearsal before the final show on the local disk (to aviod to many versions during the creative process and to do editing right on the file which is played back...no new version to bounce and to exchange into the playback software or to export to the edit pc).
I tried this with scs too. In non-linear mode it works very well...regardless of whether the files are
local or on the server. But if I use linear mode I got sometimes a short break while playing back audio.
For example two files are running. Then I initiated a fadeout cue. If the fadeout was finished the box
which was shown in the downside of scs disappears (because its finished - only active cues are shown) the graphics
flickers at this moment and I got the sometimes a short 'black' in the audio.
I tried to increase playback buffers and pre buffering in scs and buffer size of the soundcard but it seems to have
no effect (using internal mixer/ASIO).
The same scenario with all files located local...no problems!?

Any idea ...?!

Greetings

Christian

Hi Christain
I have done this at the school where I work when the network (100mb) is busy some audio clipping is experienced but when the building is empty and only the theatre is in use (like weekends) it runs fine, but my advise would be to buy yourself a small harddisk unit and run them from that, much safer and you can always take home to make adjustments if needed.
