computer freezing

I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem. I am creating a thunderstorm sequence using a 4 speaker surrond stage setup. Everything is timed from the start of the sequence and I almost has the entire thing done and then my entire computer froze on me. At first I thought it was just a fluke and continued on, actually from scratch (oops, forgot to save often). Then I got the same problem again. I think I narrowed it down the a specific sound file but even after rerendering the file I still had issues (4 more computer freezes all happening at different times). The file's sample rate is 8031, 8bit, mono. Unfortunately the computer is in the theatre right now and has no internet access so I can't grab the file now. But could this be a bug with 8.4.4, would I be better off trying to go back to 8.4.3? If so, Mike, can you send me a link for the 8.4.3 installer, I seem to have lost my old installer. Thanks a lot.

Are you using several sound files with different samplerates or bit depths in your show? I'm not sure how SCS handles this, but I have had that scenario cause similar crashes on other (not SCS) playback systems in the past, when the Windows media drivers try to mix two streams of differing rates into the one sound card.

I'm not aware of any reason for the freeze you are getting unless it is related to what Nick has suggested. It is probably worth ensuring all your files are the same format.

I've emailed you with a link for downloading 8.4.3 so you can check how the file plays with that version.

Actually, I am mixing sample rates. Bah to public domain sound effects. I will try going back and rerendering all the fx files to the same sample if I can. Thanks for the suggestion. I never thought about that.

And thanks to you too Mike.

I think I figured out where the problem is. I am going to reinstall all the system software and sound card drivers on the system tonight. The freezing was happening when cues were being delivered to my Sound Blaster Live 5.1 card so I think I may have the wrong driver. Thanks for everyone's help.
