Hi guys,
Is it possible to use the "custom MIDI string" cue in SCS to transmit a MIDI sequence?
Cheers!
Martin

In a Control Send cue you can select 'MIDI Free Format' to send any MIDI string of up to 255 bytes. This will be sent as a single string. If you need a more complex MIDI sequence, eg with timings of individual commands within the sequence, then you may want to consider setting these up in a MIDI file and using an Audio File cue to play the MIDI file.

Hi Mike,
Thanks for the reply. Ideally I do actually want to 'play' (transmit) a MIDI file, rather than hand coding MIDI strings! Looking at the audio cue parameters in the demo, I can't see that it lets you open a MIDI file - just WAV, MP3, or WMA. I'm assuming this is just a function (or 'non function'!) of the demo - is this right?
WIll the MIDI file be transmitted through the MIDI out port selected in the permament options? And will the 16 channels be respected in the file?
Thanks!
Martin

That's correct. MIDI file support is not available in the Demo and requires an SCS Professional or higher license.

In Production Properties there is a tab for
MIDI Play Devices. Here you specify a 'Device name used in cues' and map that to a 'MIDI Playback Device'. If you currently have a MIDI Out (or MIDI Thru) port assigned to the MIDI port you want to use for playing MIDI files then you will need to clear that MIDI Out (or MIDI Thru) port assignment in the Permanent Options as SCS will not let you use the same port for Control Send cues and for MIDI Playback.
MIDI playback is performed using standard Windows MIDI software so you should have no trouble playing all 16 channels.
