I just bought a netbook and i am looking for a recomendation on a usb2 device with 8 to 12 outputs to use for sound effects. does anyone have good experience with something in this line. i am currently using firewire but the mini's don't have a firewire output. while i'm at it, is ther a way around the firewire using some adapter or interface that uses the network or media card plug?
thanks in advance,
ed

If your netbook has a express card slot you can buy one of these

For firewire audio interfaces --
* my first step would be a Presonus Firebox with 6 analog TRS outs
* next level up, M-Audio Profire 610, which is considerably more expensive.
After that there are a few rack-mount M-Audio and Presonus firewire unit that will give you 8 analog TRS outs. YOu can also get ADAT outs and use an ADA converter like the Behringer ADA8000 to convert ADAT into 8 TRS outs. but this gets up there in price ... you can easily start with a Firebox for $125-175 used.
