Windows 7
Windows 7
As Windows 7 will be released in Oct 2009, has anyone tried SCS on the beta releases?

Re: Windows 7
It works OK running Win 7 Beta under virtual PC except the splash screen stayed on top sometimes covering a window saying it was going to use the default device not the one that was missing. (Virtual PC only gives you standard devices). MIke you may want to see if this happens on a real PC and if it does see why the splash screen does not time out if the default sound device selection window is open. I was unable to make the default selection window pop on top of the splash screen.
It played MP3 AAC MPG & WMV files ok with its default codecs, I will thrash it with other codecs when I get it on a real pc.
When my real copy turns in in October (SIC) I will put it on a real machine to use.

Re: Windows 7
Thanks for that, I've also got a copy on order for Oct and have got a clean HDD ready for it.
I did not want the hassle of installing the beta, setting it all up and then have to remove it to install final version.
Anyone tried the 64 bit beta and SCS ?? bit of a long shot as I don't think 64 bit drivers are available for my sound & midi card yet!
Installed the 64bit RTM and SCS seems to work OK with onboard soundcard, now just got to try and find 64 bit drivers for my usb soundcard to give it a good thrashing.

Re: Windows 7
I just downgraded my Vista machine to XP Pro ... I'm not going to risk screwups in the middle of a performance using software with a historically poor reputation -- not to mention the general hassles I've had with Vista compared to it's stable predecessor. I've heard W7 is much better than Vista, but it's the very first release ... do you and your audience want to be the ones to find the bugs for Microsoft? You might consider running XP for a while on any "production" scs machine you place in a theater.

Re: Windows 7
I've been using SCS Pro Plus with Windows 7 (we got the final release a month or so ago as a volume license customer). No problems so far. Very happy with both SCS and Win7.
Re: Windows 7
Just to clarify, the production machine in the theatre is on a clean XP SP3, no internet, only has SCS installed and will stay that way! (if it's not broke, why fix it!).
The Windows 7 I'm trying is on a spare computer used for producing SCS files, editing audio, recording, writing scripts etc.

Re: Windows 7
I now have my windows 7 up and running. SCS runs fine as far as I have tried in the Lab so to speak. It plays audio & video OK as it did before, might be a while before it gets put onto the laptop though.
As a side note MS have changed the way the audio mixer panel works which has screwed up recording "What U hear" in Adobe Audition. However good old cool edit still works. The way the volume controls now work is also somewhat annoying but manageable.
I also had a lot of problems with drivers for win7, my leadtek TV box & my serial port graphics tablet don't work on it, I gave up on the 64 bit version for now because that did not even support my scanner. It did handle my Audigy 4 sound card and the High def built in one on the Mother board OK. I suspect it's a question of beware and try it, if you have some older or esoteric sound cards as the drivers will not be ready yet.
On the plus side win7 does appear to run & multitask much better than previous versions.

Re: Windows 7
Sorry for dragging this thread up, but can anyone confirm the build used to test how SCS was running on Win7? Im using SCS9 and before i purchase a new laptop (which will likely come with Win7), i'd just like to check that SCS9 is running correctly.
Thanks,
Ross
Thanks,

I was using 10.5.x or 10.6.x Professional Plus.

Re: Windows 7
You should be OK. There was an issue when Vista came out, but that issue was fixed in SCS 9.3.4. I'm not aware of anything in Windows 7 that would prevent SCS 9.4.6 working correctly - at least in a 32-bit environment. BTW, the latest and final version of SCS 9 is 9.5.4, which you can download from the Download Archive. (You will need to login with your SCS User Name and Members' Area password.)

Re: Windows 7
SCS 10 is now certified to run under Windows 7. The version used for the certification was 10.6.2, but I would expect any earlier version to also run without any problems under Windows 7.
