MIDI Show Control with ETC Ion

Post by jstaines » Thu Jul 02, 2009 9:01 am

Has anyone had any problems controlling an ETC lighting console with MSC? I'm trying to send a simple GO command from SCS to an ETC Ion without much luck. We set the Receiving ID on the Ion to 2 and the Device ID on SCS to 2 as well. I read another post on here that someone was having trouble with the ETC Express and was just wondering if it is possible to get it to work.

Thanks in advance!
Josh

Do you know if the ETC is receiving anything from SCS? There may be an issue with SCS trying to send MSC - I'm not sure yet but I'll run more tests next week. Can you use "ETC MIDI" instead of MSC? These should send OK from SCS as they are 'short' MIDI messages (Note On, Controller Change, etc). The MSC commands are sent as SysEx messages.

Our Ion has no trouble receiving MSC commands from SCS. We were just playing around with it yesterday.

What I was having trouble with was sending MIDI from the Ion to SCS, but decided that it was moot point because we now have the ability to send commands to SCS via DMX.

As far as controlling the Ion via MIDI, everything worked fine. Any valid commands were being sent and received with no problem. Double check your settings on your Ion as well as the settings on SCS and give it another try. If things don't work, then send me a message, and I'll be happy to do what I can to help.
