Problem with SCS 10.4.1 working with a Focusrite Saffire LE

Hello All,

I am in the middle of my show run and I'm running into a major problem with my sound cues.
Most of the cues load and play fine however some of them randomly play with very loud crackles and fuzz. I have been through the ususual trouble shooting methods of updating drivers, checking for corrupt files, cables, gain levels, laptop memory etc with no leads. I have tried the show on three different laptops with the same problem.
It is different cues each time I run the show which play with these low output levels and loud fuzz, so I've no ideas as to what this could be. There is nothing else on the laptop except SCS and the Saffire LE drivers/software.

Any help would be greatly apprecitated as always,

Aidan Lesser

As you have tried 3 computers, updated drivers and it occurs randomly with different cues, the only other common point of failure is the Saffire LE hardware and associated leads. (I assume it has worked previously?)

The saffire LE is brand new for this show. However I have had runs on the show with no issues at all. I will look into why the saffire may not be working properly.

On an aside, scs is showing an error with my video card for the first video cue, however it shows still images in the next few cues fine?!

Very confused! But thank you for the suggestion.

Aidan

Have you tried replacing the firewire lead? And also make sure all leads are firmly connected and have some slack.

In SCS I suggest you go to General Options / Permanent Options / Audio Driver, and clear the checkbox marked Use Software Mixer instead of Hardware Mixer. Then click the OK button and close and restart SCS. This may not make any difference, but this checkbox should normally be cleared for all but the most basic sound cards.

Regarding the video / still image subject, videos are played using an API into Windows Media Player (WMP) whereas still images are displayed directly by SCS. So it's understandable that an error in displaying videos does not affect still images. What error are you getting with the first video cue?

what was the conclusion to this issue?
having the same problem with a saffire 24
can't disable the internal mixer as i usually would because the drivers for the saffire won't show scs anything more than a left/right out (the saffire has 6 outputs).

I've emailed you details of a test I'd like you to run.

With conclusion to this post, I was indeed using the internal mixer which I think was the main cause of the problem. I am currently using the Saffire LE again, with the newer drivers (1.5) and 10.7.2 without the internal mixer and currently have no issues! So I can only blame my poor programming/knowlegde of SCS for the intermittent fuzzing and other problems. Apologies for not being able to provide any more help. Just ensure your drivers are up to date with regards to SCS not showing all the outputs.

Cheers,
Aidan
