SCS & Windows 2000 network

Post by Adam » Sun Oct 23, 2005 2:15 am

I have installed SCS onto a networked computer on the local admin account. However, when any other user logs on and tries to run SCS, the program is not registered.

I just wondered if there was anything that needed to be changed in the registry to enable all users to use the software?

Which version of SCS are you using? This may have occurred on version 8.2.5 or earlier, but with 8.3 you should be able to access SCS from other user accounts, with SCS recognising the registration. If you are on 8.3 are the other user accounts set up as Standard Users - ie which Group are they members of?

One thing to be careful of with this arrangement is that you are still complying with the single-user license - contact me if you need extra licenses.

I updated recently to 8.3.4 I havent tried running SCS from another username since the upgrade so I will try that when I'm next at work (week off this week!)

The users are part of the 'Users' Group, which is what all students are part of. I am a local administrator with a local admin account.

SCS is only installed on one networked machine within the College, as far as I was aware this is what the license allowed?

OK see how you go with the latest 8.3 - I recommend you download 8.3.5.

This is the information about the single-user license as recorded in the SCS Help file:
The 'single-user' license allows for the use of SCS by one person or position, not necessarily on a single PC. It is understood that many SCS users will set up sound cues on their PC at home and then transfer the sound files to a separate PC at the theatre. That is an acceptable interpretation of the 'single-user' condition.
I thought I had this info on the web site as well but it didn't appear to be there so I have just added it to the 'How to Buy' page. Sorry if the meaning of the single-user license was not clear.

If you are using SCS in an educational establishment where you many have several concurrent users, please send me details of the number of concurrent users required.

Well its not really a huge problem with logging on, as its only me that uses SCS. I will just have to log on using the local admin account, rather than my network 'standard user' account.

I will do an update when I'm there next
