Adding mic input without physical mixer

Post by blt » Wed Feb 24, 2016 8:42 pm

I want to retire our old SECK mixing desk and ideally work without a physical desk.

We are running SCS 11.4.2.1 Professional Plus in Windows 7 (hope to upgrade soon) and currently use a new Behringer FCA1616 interface, although our old M-Audio 1010LT card is still installed and working. This provides the required 8 channels of output to stage and auditorium but, as far as I can work out, no provision for using the mic/line inputs to the FCA1616 for external sources.

Can I route SCS output via a software mixer which can also accept the additional inputs, or do I need a physical mixer? The Behringer documentation and software does not tell (me) how to route these inputs to specific channels even for live performance.

Probably all obvious to the expert, but I am not amongst their number!

Have you tried using the Traktion mixer software that Behringer provides? I haven't tried it myself, yet, but I would imagine it will allow you to route your FCA1616 inputs to whatever outputs you need for live performances.

Assuming that works, you would still need a way to get the SCS output into the mixer. Perhaps Traktion has a virtual sound card feature that SCS could use as an output device, and that acts as an input to the mixer. If not, you could always send your SCS output to the M-Audio interface, then connect the output of that to an input on the FCA1616.

One of these days I'll get around to trying all this fancy routing myself :-) I'll post back here if I come up with anything.

Tim.

BLT, you could also investigate using Sound Man Server (SMS) with SCS. SMS integrates with SCS and allows for live inputs and outputs.

Thanks for suggestions.

I think I will try SMS. For present production, I do not need the added functionality and will defer decision and testing.
