[Resolved] Video preview on main screen

Post by Mark Seyler » Mon Dec 09, 2013 1:05 am

Hi Mike,
I'm now running 11.2.5 which in general seems excellent but have had a few problems.....
The video preview on the main run screen has disappeared and can I get it back??? No! The second screen output is fine on the projector but the lack of the preview on the main screen is disconcerting. I have tried everything I know including un-installing and re-installing SCS, looked all through the help files.....

This seems to have happened after a real foul up. Fades on some stills and videos weren't terribly smooth, so I thought I'd try a different video renderer..... and managed to lock myself out of SCS as, when the program was re-run to try the new renderer, the mouse failed to operate within SCS.. Alright throughout the rest of the PC...but without the mouse you can't get into the options folder.......It took a lot of re-installing earlier versions, copying the cue list etc to get it back. But the preview screen seems to have disappeared somewhere in all the faffing about.

Any ideas?

There are three possible reasons for the monitor windows on the main screen not appearing:
  1. The Display Option 'Video Monitor Size' has been set to 'None' (solution: change this setting)
  2. Under Video Driver the 'Video Playback Library' has been set to 'DirectShow' (that's a limitation in using DirectShow, so you need to select 'xVideo' to have monitor windows displayed)
  3. The monitor windows have been moved off the main window, possibly to your secondary screen, so are now hidden behind the main video display window (solution: hold down a shift key while starting to SCS to open the Special Start screen, and then select the checkbox 'Clear saved window positions and sizes' and click 'OK')
btw, if video fades are not smooth then a possible solution is to hide the monitors (by setting 'Video Monitor Size' to 'None') as this reduces video processing overhead.

Many thanks for the (as usual) very prompt reply Mike. The last idea (using the Special Start screen) cleared the problem... I hadn't found that in the help file and perhaps wouldn't have thought of it... I had no trouble 'starting' the program!!!

11.2.5. seems pretty excellent......
Cheers
Mark
