Minimum Requirements for SCS + SM-S?

Post by Bob Healey » Thu Nov 08, 2012 2:44 pm

What are the minimum system requirements for using SCS with SM-S? I've tried versions 10 and 11, and both have issues with the audio skipping when using Sound Man Server for playback. Before switching to SCS, the machine has for the last few years run SoundMan Server with SoundMan Designer as the front end/UI with no issues. We had to go with version 10 and BASS engine + internal mixer to get acceptable playback.

System Specs:
XP Pro
Athlon 64x2 @ 2.0 GHz
1GB RAM
SCSI U320 HD
Digidesign 002 FW400 Soundcard.

System has worked fine running the complete Soundman stack since at least 2009.

Thanks

I'm surprised about this, Bob. I've emailed you details of a tracing version of SCS so I can see what's happening.

Bob,

Do you still have issues if you check mark the "Force audio processing onto a single processor" on the SM-S screen that initially comes up as well as when you right-click the SM-S tray icon?

Also, what version of SM-S are you using?

I've been a user of ABEdit for AudioBox since 2005 as well as SM-S and SM-D (morphed from the ABEdit codebase for AB64s) when RSD transitioned out of the AB business. Since then ( February 2012) I've switched to a combination of SCS 10.9.7 and SM-S .73 for playback with a MOTU 2408 using XP Pro and a dual core processor.

I looked up your processor and it meets all the min qualifications to run SM-S - of course you knew that since you had been using SM-S and SM-D together.

Certainly like to get to the bottom of this.

Thank you,

When we switched from Soundman Designer 2-3 weeks ago, we got the latest version of Server to go with SCS. Not sure what it is off the top of my head. Right now, the machine is in a theoretically working state. The show opens tomorrow, and the sound people would prefer no poking of the equipment until Monday at the earliest.

Bob,
I certainly understand not wanting to change things during a show!
Looking forward to Monday's report.
Thanks
