[Fixed] Midi hotkeys

Post by sounds-technical » Fri Sep 21, 2012 7:47 am

is it possible to add the ability to assign a midi signal to trigure as a 'hotkey' for starting cues??

the reason for this is,
i am working on making a production with built in parts of the set triguring sound effects (ie when someone opens a door a door chime is played automaticly) i have a midi cpu chip from highly liquid
http://store.highlyliquid.com/collectio ... s/midi-cpu
this converts trigures / switches to midi, but i can only find a way to make it trigure the 'GO' button or to jump to and play a specific cue...

(if i used midi to play a specific cue ie the first one would the cue list resume from where it was previously or stay where is after the trigured cue)

Yes, you can do that now. I haven't used the MIDI cpu chip you mentioned. but I presume you can configure the MIDI chip to send a specific MIDI command, such as 'Note On: 10', for the trigger sensor.

Assuming you can, then set up your MIDI Cue Control in SCS as explained under Cue Control Devices - MIDI. Make sure you have 'play cue' settings defined, for example see MIDI Note On Messages.

Now set up your hotkey cue as normal and enter a MIDI/DMX Cue number, eg 10 - see Cue Properties.

You can now send the relevant MIDI command, eg 'Note On: 10', as often as you like to SCS, and the hot key cue will play without interrupting the general order of cues.

thanks for that mike, i thought there must be something simple id overlooked

have got it working with midi trigures now, there is just one thing iv noticed that may be not quite right

trigger and toggle modes of hotkey mode work fine with midi but note mode acts same as trigger, everytime there is a 'note on' the cue restarts, but doesnt appear to stop with 'note off' signal.

(i have tried this with both the midi-cpu chip which gives a note on at velovity 0 which scs converts to note off velocity 0 and also a midi keyboard which appears to give a true note off signal and both act same and dont stop a hotkey note cue)

there is one other thing that iv noticed in toggle mode, if you assign a qwerty keyboard key , say for example 'A' to a cue and give it a midi value too if it is trigured via midi cue state does not change in the hotkey panel and the qwerty key A will not stop the cue... if a cue is started via the A key is changes state in the hotkey list but midi will not stop the cue... this is not a problem to me but may be usefull if fixable as an over-ride function...

Fix for these MIDI issues ready for the next release (SCS 11.1.1).

@sounds-technical: please try toggle and note hot keys via MIDI with SCS 11.1.1 RC2, which I've just uploaded.
