Newbie to SCS

Hi all

I'm involved with a live band, where we're running backing tracks and video simultaneously. I've just grabbed the demo to try, and I'm really impressed with how easy it is to operate.

Before I purchase it, I do have a couple of questions. If anyone can help clear things up for me, I'd be grateful.

1) Am I right in thinking the cue is the operation, and the sub cue is the audio/video information?
2) Between each song, we want a still image on the video screen. If I create a hot key and press it for the next song, is there a way to get the picture to fade out? I can only get it to abruptly cut.

I'm sure there will be other things that crop up, so please bare with me.

That's fairly good explanation. In SCS a cue may contain several sub-cues and always contains at least one sub-cue - except for 'Note' cues. So you could have backing track files for, say, drums, lead gtr, etc, and have them set up as separate sub-cues of the main cue for a song. When you start the cue, all the sub-cues of that cue are started together, assuming you leave the Sub-Cue Relative Start Time fields blank. If you haven't already seen it, have a look at the Forum posting by Martin Norris: SCS - Used for Everly Brothers Tribute Show.

The image should fade out if you set a Fade out time for the hot key cue. How are you stopping the still image cue?

Thanks for the response. That does make a lot more sense now regarding cues and sub cues.

I'm actually not stopping the still image cue, which I'm guessing is where I'm going wrong. I'm just pressing th hot key for the next track. I did set a fade on the still image, but I guess because its not technically stopping (something else is starting) that it doesnt register the fade. Is that correct?!

Hi Paul,
As Mike mentioned earlier I'm running shows with a very similar format to you.

There are many different ways to 'kill birds with stones' when it comes to the operation of SCS. I actually tend to use auto-start cues a fair bit as I find it easier when it comes to editing a show. For instance, I make my video files into Cues as opposed to Sub-Cues and start them automatically with the preceeding audio Cue . . . this seems to give me a bit more flexibility when it comes to manipulating the video start time to cope with different computer/video codec situations.

I also put up still images between songs using auto-start cues for them. They can then be faded out by the use of an SFR Sub-Cue at the beginning of the next song. This can usually be done whilst the count-in is happening.

If that doesn't make complete sense I'm happy to go into more detail or send you a short Cue File to demonstrate what I'm taliking about . . .
