RS232 Control of Kramer VP-727

Post by Hornett » Thu Jun 18, 2009 11:10 pm

I am playing with RS232 control and am looking for some help, i completely understand that using this type of control can be somewhat difficult that is why i am here. Here is the link to the instruction manual for the Kramer VP-272 which has the complete Communication protocol for this unit i am very new to this type of control and have no idea where to start. I am having trouble even understanding how to write a control send cue.

http://audiogeneral.com/Electronics/vp727_manual.pdf

page 51 onwards gives you the Communication Protocol.

so what i am asking is if someone would give me an example of how they would send a TAKE command using SCS to the Kramer via RS232. This would show me that it is possible and hopefully give me an insight to explore this further.

Thanking you in advance for you reply. :D

Hi,

at first, connect the VP-727 via serial cable to the RS-232C port of Your PC, of course :-)
The next thing is to configure the RS232 port. Open General Options>Permanent Options>RS232 Control, check the used port for outgoing communication (RS232 Out) and adjust the parameters for the port (see Your VP-727 manual p. 39, right below the example). Press OK if done.
Now, for testing, create a new production, add a control cue within the editor and select RS232 as message type. Leave RS232device as RS232 and Entry mode as ASCII and keep "Add CR (0DH) to end of RS232 Message?" checked. Enter the message to be tested like in the given example (the black squares mean "Space", just hit space bar ), take the exact commands from Table 17 from next page. You don't need to add the CR, SCS will do this for You. Click "Test Control Message" and see if it works :-)

Have fun
