fading out.

Post by aberns » Wed Jul 27, 2005 2:28 pm

So here is what I want to do.
During a scene change there are three songs, usually, they can finish the change during those songs. What I would like to do is at any time the board op could press go, or whatever, fade out the current song. In another scenaro, instead of fading out, I would like to cross fade.
Thanks!

I presume these are quite short songs if you have up to three occurring during a scene change? The functionality you are looking for will be coming in SCS Version 9, but at this stage I can't give you an expected delivery date for that as I am concentrating on resolving an issue for 8.3.

With SCS 9 there will be a new cue type of playlist, primarily designed for pre-show and intermission music. With a playlist cue you will be able to build a list of files to be played consecutively, with cross fading and individual level control available. When required you will be able to fade out the playlist cue regardless of how far thru the list of files the cue has reached.

Meanwhile, in SCS 8 you will basically need to combine the files using a sound file editor to create, for example, a single MP3 file that will cover your scene change, so that you can set this up as a normal sound file cue and fade it out when required.

Only one problem AFAIK in 8.3, but it's taking a while to resolve. 8.3 uses a new (to SCS) audio driver which opens up new functionality, such as enabling any supported audio file type to be played to any audio device, not just WAV files as is the case with 8.2. Also, linking of cues played simultaneously to more than one device is now possible.

However, with some sound cards when a cue is played it may stutter at the start or even not play at all. I am currently in contact with the developer of the audio driver and hopefully will have a fix soon.

The best just keeps getting better! Can't wait for SCS 9. I build a playlist on my DJ software, Then switch to SCS after I fade out. The new version is just what I need.

I do sound on 4 or 5 show a season. I turn down requests for usually 2 more show a season. (Need a little time for my wife) The new version sounds like a great addition to a already great program.

Keep up the good work Mike!

Jim
