ProdId (fix in 10.1.2)

Post by sound » Sun Aug 24, 2008 4:14 am

I'm having the problem that different cue files get the same ProdId assigned. This means that changing Device Names/Devices/Speakers in one cue file affects the other cue files (with the same ProdId) as well. In addition when I change the setting from using DIFFERENT physical devices to using the SAME device the registry entry gets deleted and all the other cue files loose their settings as well.

How (and when) is the ProdId generated?

Thanks,
Walter

Yes, I can see a flaw in the logic for generating the ProdId. It is intended to be unique for any production, but I can see circumstances in which duplicates could occur. I'll change the logic to include a date and time component in the ProdId.

Meanwhile I suggest you set the 'Other Computers' production property to 'Other SCS computers have the SAME physical device types'. If this is a hassle and you want to retain the 'DIFFERENT physical device types' setting then you can manually change the ProdId's in the cue files and the registry to your own unique codes. Email me if you need assistance or details on what to change.

Sounds good, thanks.

This has been fixed in 10.1.2, but note that this will only affect new ProdId's. Existing ProdId's remain unchanged. If you have duplicates in your existing cue files then the simplest solution is to 'Save As...' each of the duplicates to create new cue files. 'Save As...' causes a new ProdId to be generated.

Note: Duplicate ProdId's were only an issue if you had the 'Other Computers' production property set to 'Other SCS computers have DIFFERENT physical device types'. Since this is not the default setting the issue would not affect you unless you changed the setting. Also, duplicated ProdId's were only generated for cue files saved on the same day. In 10.1.2 the ProdId algorithm uses the date and time, down to seconds.
