10.1.0 will not start (solved)

Post by Gary Gravett » Thu Jul 31, 2008 11:06 pm

Currently have release 9.5.3 installed on Windows Vista Ultimate machine. everything works great with this release. Just downloaded the latest release and installed it on the machine. Installed 10.1.0 into a different directory. When I try and start the new release I get the following error message. Hope someone has some idea on how to solve this.

Error 339 Component 'wmp.dll' or one of its dependencies not
correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid
SCS 10.1.0

wmp.dll is a core part of Windows Media Player and is used, I believe, by SCS 10 for video playing (amongst other things?). From a bit of Googling it seems to be quite fragile under Vista and can be relocated or its registration broken by a number of third party programmes.

Try searching your C drive for it (you may need to access hidden files and folders). SCS 10 expects to find it in C:\WINDOWS\system32\wmp.dll, but I have read that some programmes want to install their own versions elsewhere.

When you have found wmp.dll, check its version number in Properties, it needs to be version 10 or 11.

Is Windows Media Player itself working? If not, it may need to be repaired. Although the standard advice for a damaged program might be to uninstall and reinstall, this is not possible. However this Microsoft KnowledgeBase article explains how to repair it, if you feel happy about playing in the registry; usual caveats apply.

Mike may have some other ideas about your problem.
