Help! Running on Dell Laptop with M-Audio Fast Track Pro

Post by ratsawgod » Tue Apr 08, 2008 4:40 pm

Anyone on here have any issues with running SCS on a Dell laptop running Windows XP with M-Audio Fastrack Pro? Right now my playback is choppy and then fritzes and then drops out all-together. I'd done some reading on this, and I've gathered some USB ports don't jive well with M-Audio. I'm not using a hub, but pluging in directly to the laptop. I'm sure that this is a problem with the M-Audio box, becasue when I listen to my cues through headphones pluged directly into my laptop, I don't get the glitches and audio drop-out. I'm tried all of my ports, re-installing, and even a different connecting cable- but nothing fixes it. Is it possible that this paticular laptop doesn't like M-Audio?

Uh oh -- I have a FastTrack Pro and a Dell laptop also and although it's not the primary interface I use (the theater has Desktop machines with Delta PCI cards installed) I had assumed I could use the FastTrack on occasion.

Maybe USB just isn't as robust for outbound audio traffic as firewire is? After all, USB was designed for mice and keyboards, not necessarily high content rate streaming. Or is it just the chipset used by Dell laptops for their USB connection (I heard similar issues with firewire -- using the right chipset).

I will make a note to try out my FastTrack Pro the next time I'm at the theater. I'll pump one of my standard show programs through it and let you know how it goes.

Thanks. John
