Reliability of the Enttec DMX USB Pro Mk2

Post by MRU » Wed Feb 15, 2023 8:58 pm

Hello fellow Show Cue System users,

I bought an Enttec DMX USB Pro Mk2 a year ago for use with SCS11. Despite careful handling, the micro-usb connector stopped working last Sunday, 15 minutes before the start of a performance in a packed theatre (I'll let you imagine what followed...)
Have other users had a similar problem?
I have to get a new DMX interface very quickly, and I see that the Mk2 is no longer available anywhere. Is the old model (Enttec DMX USB Pro Interface) a good alternative, especially regarding reliability in the control room of a theatre ?

I bought my MK2 several years ago and found the USB connection troublesome. I then tried using my phone's USB cable and that seemed to fix the problems! I continue to use that cable in all my testing and it has not failed me since.

For productions, however, I use my ENTTEC DMX USB PRO for three reasons: (1) I've ever only needed one DMX universe; (2) The USB PRO has built-in DMX sockets whereas the MK2 requires the use of a (supplied) breakout cable; and (3) the USB PRO has a larger USB socket. In instructions I leave for anyone else who will be running tech for a show, I include advice to check the USB cable connections are firm at both ends before starting SCS.

Thank you for your answer and your advices. I tried with the cable of my smartphone but unfortunately it doesn't change anything.

So, I am going to buy a USB pro interface with the larger USB socket …
