Venue uses unknown DMX fixture types

Post by Van Bullock » Mon Nov 23, 2020 10:28 am

Is there a command within SCS that will return the DMX fixture data?

We occasionally use a venue with an older lighting console and no information on the DMX fixture types. The console itself caused us major problems the last time we used the venue, and since then I have upgraded to SCS and bought a compatible interface fir my laptop.

Short of climbing up a ladder and inventorying the entire array, it would be nice to be able to query the network.

I don't think this would be possible as the only communication normally available is via DMX, and that is just DMX values in the range 0-255 for up to 512 channels per universe. In venues I've worked in there has always been a diagram (either printed or electronic) showing the position and type of each fixture, and the start DMX channel. I would expect some such diagram exists somewhere for your venue, or maybe another lighting operator can provide you with this info.
