[Fix 11.8.1] SCS Ignores Light Cue Fade Times

Post by ChuckPuckett » Sun May 12, 2019 8:42 am

Not infrequently, I use SCS to run lights when we are in a venue where I supply my lighting rig, etc. I've always had good luck, SCS has been solid (although I admittedly don't generally do anything terrribly complicated: fade in a wash, fade to black, a few specials, etc).

I started setting up a show this afternoon: same lighting rig, same ENTTEC USB DMX Pro, same dimmer packs, etc. I entered the first few cues, and ran a test. The lights come up and down all right, but the fade time is completely ignored. I can see the fade timer proceed on the main screen (I generally use 5 sec fades), but the lights just came up immediately. The channel selection is right, etc, but no fade times.

I opened an SCS file from an old show. The channel assignments weren't the same, of course, but SCS had the same response to fade times. That show worked fine when we did it, and the fact that it no longer does fade times correctly makes me think SCS has gone through some kind of coding change or something in this area.

I searched the help file, but found nothing that indicated I had set up the cues incorrectly.

In a (possibly) related area, I tried to create a 2 step chase (it's The Wiz, and director wants some flashing lights for the tornado). I entered 2 steps, green to red, and tried to run the cue. Nothing. Not even any light at all. Changed to 120 BPM, still no lights.

Admittedly, Id never created a chase before, but it seems pretty straightforward. Unless it's not. :D

Any help would be appreciated. Show goes up next Thursday.

tnx

Guessing by the subject you fixed this by using 11.8.1?

I've run into the same issue with fade times not working except for DBO, that fades out perfectly. I tried 11.8.1 and the latest stable release.
Just wondering if there was any other settings that I may have missed?

I see from our web log that you have downloaded SCS 11.8.2rc6. Do you still the problem with this version? If so, then note that a log file will have been created and saved in a folder named "SCS Logs" under "Documents", and the name of the file includes a time-stamp indicating when the log started. Please email me a relevant log file, and tell me which cue(s) didn't fade when you expected them to.

Thanks for the log file. As I've explained by email, the issue is that in Q1 you haven't set the 'Fade time for the above fixtures', but instead have set the 'Fade out time for other active channels'.
