You can achieve this with a "FADE ALL" ('shift+ESC) while playing your image.
To resume the same image you then hit "GO" again.
Set the fade in of the image the same time of the fade out time for the "FADE ALL", I think it is 5sec by default but can be change in the general settings.

Why do You not use MTC?

The actions I need to trigger are http request to light up little autonomous RGB props on stage via a wifi network.

Great possibilities even if it seems that tap tempo from stream deck to X32 is not possible, but that is not the subject here.
