Thanks for the suggestions. No resolution yet, though. I'm using 64 bit Win 8.1. Outlook 2010 still seems to be able to produce sounds with the Windows sound scheme set to None. Also, Outlook only seems to appear in the Startup section of the Task Manager once an alert has sounded. I'm then able to ...

Is there a simple way to force SCS to have exclusive control over all sound events on a laptop?
